PBT Personal Effects!
Personal Effects are items which may elevate your status as a successful pirate. Some items may provide you with additional advantages in future treasure hunts while others may provide you with "opportunities"! As you progress through your career, you will encounter various items which you may purchase with your Pirate Gold. Your personal profile page will contain details on some basic items available for purchase, but many items may not be available until you have acquired a specific promotion..
Many Personal Effects are items that may be worn, such as feathers,
hats, gloves & boots or they may be carried such as daggers, swords,
pistols & muskets. Each item may provide the pirate with an advantage
over other pirates, especially during pirate challenges. The
availability and price of each item may vary from location to location
and many items may be discovered. If you happen to discover a specific
item, you will need to provide the serial number supplied with your
discovery in order for the item to be applied to your profile.
On various journey's, you may encounter a number of scenarios where additional items may be extremely useful. There may be times when you may be able to continue without having additional items on hand, but there will no doubt be times when you will have to analyze your inventory and possibly make a purchase or two before continuing. A well prepared pirate tends to have a better chance of success over those that may be lacking.
Many pirates have sent requests seeking details on personal effects available. Your best source of information regarding personal effects may be in the form of experience or an occasional Tavern Journal. Tavern Journals seem to be the best source of detailed information regarding Personal Effects and their associated advantages, but these journals are rare and usually come with a high price.
While most Personal Effects may eventually pay for themselves in the long run, some may provide a form of income to those in need. If you find yourself in possession of multiple items with the same benefit, you may want to barter your item for other goods or services. One example would be in the form of hats. If you have two hats, you should keep the more valuable hat of the two and barter/sell the lesser valued hat. You may be able to use multiple weapons, but you can only wear one hat at a time! personal effects usually increase your attack and/or defense value in your pirate profile, some items may provide you with additional benefits and/or opportunities. Having various items on hand may be viewed by others as a sign of your success. The Captain also provides recognition for well equipped pirates and tends to send them on special "well rewarding" quests.
